Sydney Olympic Park opens NSW's largest regional playground
New South Wales's largest public playground facility, the Blaxland Riverside Park, at Sydney Olympic Park has been opened.
The $7.7 million facility was opened yesterday (Sunday 3rd June) by NSW Minister for Sports and Recreation, Graham Annesley, who stated "this is truly a magnificent playground facility for the people of Sydney.
"The final stage of the project adds a huge multi-level tree house, sandpit and the largest water play facilities in the State.
"There will also be additional amenities including a kiosk, 130 extra car spaces, new picnic tables, shade structures and public amenities."
Spread over three hectares and offering 12 play environments, children of all ages will be able to enjoy - a double flying fox, mega-swing, tunnel slides, tunnels, a scramble wall, spinning play-disc, play mounds, a giant climbing web, and a Viking swing.
Blaxland Riverside Park Regional Playground has been opened in stages to meet growing public demand for quality open space and recreational facilities as Sydney grows. Stage 1, comprising the original playground equipment, opened in 2011.
Sydney Olympic Park Chief Executive Alan Marsh added "this project has been completed on budget and is a major addition to Sydney Olympic Park's public amenities.
"Given the popularity of Stage 1 of the Regional Playground, I am convinced the public will embrace these new facilities equally enthusiastically."
Minister Annesley went on to state "outside of the major theme parks, there really is nothing like it in design and scope anywhere in Australia, and I'm very hopeful this outstanding recreational facility will see thousands of children enjoying the benefits of outdoor recreational activity.
"This is another excellent example of the NSW Government delivering on its commitment to provide quality services and infrastructure where it is needed to make a positive difference in people's lives."
