Swim Australia Launches New Courses for Teens and Adults

Swim Australia is to release a new Teacher of Adolescents and Adults course at the upcoming Australian Swimming Coaches and Teachers Association (ASCTA) Convention.

The Swim Australia⢠Teacher of Adolescents and Adults possesses specific current knowledge related to learners approximately 14 years and older.

The self-paced study course has been authored by David Speechley and was developed by a Reference Group (for which Speechley was Course Project Manager) consisting of:

• Ross Gage, Chief Executive, ASCTA-Swim Australia;
• Steve Cornelius, National Coaching Director, Masters Swimming;
• Tony Keogh, Level 1 Masters, Bronze Coach; former National Coaching Director AUSSI Masters Swimming;
• Ted Tullberg, Level 1 Masters; Gold Coach;
• Roz Moller, Level 1 Masters; Bronze Coach;
• Raelene Ryan, Gold Coach; &
• Anita Killmier, Author Mastering Swimming; former National Coaching Director AUSSI Masters Swimming.

Topics within the course include Adults in Swimming; Factors in Adolescent and Adult Swimming; Pedagogy; Medical; Water Familiarisation; Personal Safety and Survival Drowning Tolls and Lesson Planning.

As Ross Gage explains, "with an aging population the course is very relevant to Australia's swimming needs."
