Swan Active Midland reopens after $30 million rebuild

After a $30 million refurbishment project, Swan Active Midland reopened its doors last weekend with a celebratory event to showcase its new gym and upgraded indoor sports courts and pools.

Four times the size of the original, the 650 metre² gym features Technogym equipment and specialised functional training area.

Refreshed by natural light from Swan Regional Recreation Park it offers a tailored approach to the customer experience with members having access to free consultations, measurements and a range of programs.

In addition, the facility’s wellness room accommodates yoga, Pilates and meditation. Adorned with tasteful finishes and mood lighting, the space has been curated to promote a peaceful atmosphere for members to escape to.

Swan Active Midland’s ‘one-stop shop’ for physical, mental, and social wellness also features a group fitness room revamped with premium lighting, air-conditioning and sound. Spanning more than 280 metres², the group fitness room program includes the likes of hip hop, TYGRA and Get Low Seniors.

The renovated pool spaces feature improved accessibility, with new ramps and stairs to enhance the member experience. The indoor lap pool now has depths varying from one to 1.7 metres, providing both walking lanes and a family-friendly space. The leisure pool boasts new water play features, while the new spa and sauna have improved access with wheelchair space and adequate room for manoeuvring.

The $30 million refurbishment also included a comprehensive upgrade of the indoor sports courts, headlined by new sprung timber flooring and enhanced ventilation enabling basketball games to be played on a competition-grade surface.

The courts can be used for a variety of sports, including netball, futsal, volleyball and badminton while there has also been a full reconfiguration and refurbishment of the change facilities to better meet the needs of members.

The facility also includes a new café and crèche.

It was designed by Carabiner Architects for the City of Swan.
