Sports facility industry experts to discuss future global trends at IAKS Congress

International experts from the sports facility industry will meet to discuss trends and best practices in design and operation at the 24th International IAKS Congress for the Design, Construction, Modernization and Management of Sports and Leisure Facilities, being held on in Cologne, Germany from 27th to 30th October.

Discussion topics will range from new approaches to traditional sports grounds and equipment for colleges, universities and schools, to stadiums and arenas for major events, as well as urban adventure areas and open spaces. The assembled experts will share their experiences with interested visitors to the trade fairs FSB and aquanale, which will be taking place simultaneously.

The Congress program, which gives an overview of all sessions and workshops, speakers, the chairperson and supporting program, also displays information about the venue, journey, accommodation and tickets.

The program is online and available in English, Spanish and German.

To mark IAKS’s 50th anniversary, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach, International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President Philip Craven and Thomas de Maizière, Germany’s Minister of the Interior, are continuing a tradition of being the official patrons of the 24th IAKS Congress.

Themes for the 2015 IAKS Congress will include the sports facilities of the Winter and Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2014 and 2016 respectively, the use of urban spaces for individual exercise activities and inclusive design for all. Representatives of international sports organizations will discuss the importance of architecture and building construction for the development of various sports, and emerging, socially relevant trends in exercise, health and leisure behavior. All lectures will be simultaneously translated into English, German and Spanish.

In two of the congress’s sessions, on 27th October, six buildings and projects will receive the IOC/IPC/IAKS Award for exemplary facilities. The IOC/IAKS Award commends exemplary buildings and complexes that integrate sensible sustainibility and legacy considerations, strong functional planning and exceptional architectural design. The congress sessions offer the unique opportunity to meet the award winners personally and to get first-hand information about their projects.

All congress tickets include entry for FSB and aquanale, as well as many other benefits with greater discounts available when registering several people. Students receive a discount of 75%.
