Dreamworld chooses bilbies not bunnies at Easter
As supporters of the Save The Bilby Fund, Dreamworld are reminding Australians to choose Easter Bilbies over Easter Bunnies this Easter in order to help raise much needed funding and awareness toward bilbies in the wild.
Al Mucci, General Manager Life Sciences and Dreamworld Corroboree explains “Dreamworld have contributed approximately $500,000 in time, money and effort over the past ten years in support of the Save The Bilby Fund.
"We’re more committed than ever to make sure that these native treasures will once again thrive in the wild.”
Frank Manthey of Save The Bilby Fund adds “Australians will spend $157 million on chocolate this Easter.
"Many of these chocolates will be rabbits, which cause billions of dollars damage to the Australian environment every year.
"(By contrast), you can be part of the growing number of Australians who celebrate bilbies at Easter, not bunnies. Look for Pink Lady Chocolate Bilbies with Save the Bilby Fund’s logo. Pink Lady chocolate bilbies can be bought from Big W, Myer, David Jones, selected Australia Post offices and selected specialty chocolate shops.”
In support of the cause, Dreamworld are currently showcasing its famous twin bilby joeys at the Royal Easter Show.
Born the same week as the royal prince in July 2013, Dreamworld’s royal bilby joeys were named in his honour, Prince George I & II.
Dreamworld has also announce the three finalists who will compete for the title of Dreamworld’s first ever Mini Mayor.
Blake Skafte-Grieve, four-years-old from NSW, Thomas Walmsley, four-years-old from Queensland, and Nahomi Jones, six-years-old from Queensland, will participate in an all-important final week of campaigning at Dreamworld in week commencing 12th May.
The week will culminate in the Mini Mayor 2014 announcement on Friday 16th May.
To reward his or her efforts as a valued consultant to all things that make children happy, Dreamworld’s successfully elected Mini Mayor will receive the ‘key’ to the park in a lavish ceremony, and will enjoy the benefits of being a Platinum World Passholder for two years.
Dreamworld Chief Executive Craig Davidson says "we were overwhelmed by both the number of entries and quality of entries received since we first put the call out in February for all children around the country to join the running to become our Mini Mayor.”
“We’re confident that we have the perfect mini leader among our final three candidates."
The principle role of Dreamworld’s Mini Mayor will be to represent the under 10 demographic in offering valuable input and feedback on what their constituents most need and want to make them happy.
The three finalists and their families will stay at Australia’s favourite family resort, Paradise Resort for the final week of the mayoral race.
