Hamilton City Council offers sports equipment for loan
A new programme launched by Hamilton City Council will make basic sports equipment available for loan through community centres.
Run by the Council’s Community Development and Leisure Unit, the new programme is managed by Ani Nock, a Community Advisor who also plays touch rugby for New Zealand.
Nock explains "our aim is to have a range of basic sports equipment available to families and groups, so they can enjoy some exercise and have a bit of fun at the same time.
“Exercise is vital to the health and well-being of all our city’s residents, and our project will stimulate that.”
Equipment available for loan includes:
• A swingball set
• Footballs
• Rugby balls
• Touch rugby balls
• Junior cricket equipment
• A tug-o-war rope
• Plastic cones to mark out playing areas
• Volleyball equipment
Over time, more equipment will be added, and donations of other items are welcomed.
Equipment will be made available from locations around the city including the Enderley Community Centre, Te Whare o te Ata, Gallagher Aquatic Centre and the Good News Community Centre.
A booking system will be used to manage the use of the equipment, and users will pay a small refundable bond.
The project is partially funded by Sport New Zealand.
