Spartan obstacle race returns to Werribee Racecourse

The Werribee Spartan Event is returning for a second consecutive year on 9th and 10th August 2025 and is anticipated to attract thousands of participants and to boost the local economy.

Spartan Melbourne will be held at Werribee Racecourse as part of a three-year Wyndham City partnership to secure this major event for the region.

This international obstacle race series takes place around the world, with last year’s event in Werribee attracting almost 4,500 participants.

This year, adults will have the choice of testing their mettle in a five-kilometre Sprint featuring 20 obstacles, or a 10-kilometre super course with 25 obstacles.

Ther is also a Kid’s Race featuring obstacles over one to three kilometres, open to children aged from four to 14.

Wyndham City Mayor, Mia Shaw, encouraged everyone who wants to test their skills to sign up and shared “Events like this provide important opportunities for our community to be active. We are excited to see Spartan here for the second year in a row and I’m looking forward to seeing participants back in action down at Werribee Racecourse.”

Iramoo Ward Councillor Maria King added “this event delivers on the core premise of our Wyndham Visitor Economy Strategy 2024-2028, which aims to foster a sustainable and prosperous visitor economy in Wyndham. Major events like this are so important in bringing people into the region and supporting our local businesses including accommodation, dining and major attractions.

“Event organisers are taking registrations for volunteers to help throughout the weekend. This is a great way for those wanting to experience the thrill of Spartan and be part of the action without tackling the course.”

Spartan Australia Director Robert Nelms added “this is Australia's ultimate obstacle race coming straight to the doorstep of Melbourne. Whether you're a first-time racer or a seasoned Spartan veteran, our August event provides an accessible, fast course that brings the Spartan experience right to your backyard. We've designed this race to welcome everyone—from corporate teams looking for a challenge to families wanting to test their limits together.

“We will also have an opportunity for adults to hit the kids’ course on their hands and knees to raise money for Spartan Ambassador Arwin Nidea - diagnosed with incurable kidney disease, Arwin completes every Spartan Race in Australia with 9% kidney function to raise awareness of kidney disease and inspire fellow members of the community. At Spartan Melbourne we will give back to Arwin and raise vital funds in his time of need.”
