Spartan Race Australia uses Gumtree to find volunteers for ANZ Stadium race

Leading adventure and obstacle race event organisation Spartan Race is using local classified listings and community site Gumtree to recruit volunteers for the running of Australia’s first ever obstacle stadium race.

The race, to be held at ANZ Stadium on 15th February offers participants, according to race organisers “(a) unique opportunity for you to be a part of history and compete in the arena that has hosted the Olympics, grand finals, international test matches, big name concerts and now Australia’s first stadium obstacle race.”

In the Gumtree recruitment listing, Spartan Race invites volunteers to “come and join our team and help out in our festival area on registration, bag check, kids race or finish line- or be out on course encouraging others.

“Full or half day shifts available. 

“Volunteering gives you a free race on the day or future race credit, free lunch, t shirt and spectator entry.” 

Founded in the USA in 2010, Spartan Race has become popular around the world.

A partnership with Reebok, which began in January 2013, has seen Spartan Race events branded as the Reebok Spartan Race Series, although this branding is not used in the Gumtree advertisement.

Adventure, multisport and obstacle racing has emerged as one of the fastest growing sports in history, with over 300 races and approximately five million participants globally in 2014. In its relatively short history, the number of participants in the sport has exceeded that of the almost 100-year old sport of triathlon.
