Spartan Event attracts thousands to Werribee

Wyndham City Council has advised that this weekend's Werribee Spartan Event has attracted nearly 4500 people.

Held yesterday and today (3rd and 4th August), competitors descended on Werribee Racecourse from all over Victoria, interstate and internationally in the first of three Spartan Australia, NZ & Fiji events to be held in Wyndham in as many years.

Adults were offered the choice of two courses over the two-day event - a five-kilometre Sprint featuring 20 obstacles, or a 10-kilometre Super course with 25 obstacles - while children aged from four to 14 tackled a series of obstacles over one to three kilometres.

Dylan Pardy took out both the Super Male and Sprint Male titles over the weekend, with Shannon Hunkin winning the Super Female title and Kristy Magyar winning the Sprint Female title.

Meanwhile, Cody Coombe and Mia Tian won their respective Male and Female 12-14 categories, and Mason Goldsmith-Carter and Bobbie Wooles won their respective Male and Female 9-11 categories.

There was also the opportunity for spectators to get in on the action, with a "taster" obstacle course featuring three obstacles.

Wyndham City Mayor Jennie Barrera, said it was amazing to see Werribee Racecourse transformed into the ultimate Spartan obstacle course for the event and added "Spartan is the global leader in providing unique obstacle courses for adults and children alike, and it was fantastic to see participants working together to tackle these challenging courses right here in Wyndham.

"With 88% of competitors coming from outside of Wyndham, including competitors from the US, Japan, Philippines, Singapore and New Zealand, it's also been a big tourism drawcard for our City.

"Wyndham City's partnership with Spartan Australia, NZ & Fiji epitomises the work we're doing through our Wyndham Visitor Economy Strategy 2024-2028, which aims to foster a sustainable and prosperous visitor economy in Wyndham.

"Delivering and attracting major events such as Spartan is a great way for people outside of Wyndham to enjoy all the great accommodation, food, nature and cultural experiences that Werribee and surrounds has to offer."

Spartan Australia, NZ & Fiji Director, Robert Camilleri shared "this event has been a resounding success and we're looking forward to working with Wyndham City again as we look towards our 2025 Spartan event and beyond.

"We were particularly blown away by the number of kids who signed up to compete, with more than 800 young competitors over the weekend.

"It was also great to see more than 100 people sign up as volunteers over the weekend.

"Wyndham's reputation for excellence in major events and festivals is clear and the City offers our competitors both a fantastic place to compete, and an equally fantastic place to stay, play and enjoy."

Tickets are now available for Werribee's 2025 Spartan event, which will be held on 9th and 10th August.
