Seymour War Memorial Outdoor Pool to reopen following flood repair
Mitchell Shire Council has advised that the Seymour War Memorial Outdoor Pool, located 40km north of Melbourne, is reopening on 17th January.
Widespread damage from the October 2022 major floods prevented Seymour War Memorial Outdoor Pool from opening for the regular 2022/23 summer season.
Then Mitchell Shire Mayor Fiona Stevens, said Council had no choice but to close the facility for the summer for the health and safety of the community noting “the pools have been contaminated with flood water, we’ve had damage to the plant room - which houses the pools filtration system, chemical feeders and pumps - as well as structural cracking in the masonry wall and change rooms.
“The facility, which in some areas was under half a metre of water, is also expected to be subject to mould in the coming weeks and months.”
The pool has since undergone significant restoration following the devastating floods of October 2022.
Dedicated efforts of the Mitchell Shire Council and funding from the Local Government Victoria Emergencies Flood Support Fund have seen the pool restored with improved amenities, upgraded drainage and flooring in the change rooms.
A reopening event will offer attendees a variety of fun, such as plaster art painting, giant games like Jenga and Connect 4, and lively sports including pickle ball and water skirmish. Live music will keep the atmosphere festive, plus a free sausage sizzle and a selection of food trucks with delicious treats for purchase.
Mitchell Shire Council’s new Mayor John Dougall - elected on 18th November 2024 - enthused "we are thrilled to welcome the community back to the Seymour War Memorial Outdoor Pool.
"This event is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together, have fun, and celebrate the reopening of this beloved community facility."
