Discovery Parks MIldura reopens following two-year flood rebuild

Discovery Parks has reopened its Mildura, Buronga Riverside holiday park ahead of the festive season, after a two-year recovery journey following the devastating Murray River floods of 2022.

After being inundated by floodwaters, the park has undergone a $4 million transformation with enhanced guest facilities and upgraded accommodation options.

The flood recovery project saw 20 cabins refurbished and relocated on site, the rebuilding of two amenity buildings, and the refurbishment of two swimming pools and camp kitchens. A new communal fire pit and upgraded bouncing pillow add to the park's charm, while 155 powered and unpowered campsites have also been rebuilt.

The park's waterfront area has also been rejuvenated with dedicated sandstone seating and two waterfront BBQs, offering guests a picturesque setting to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the region.

As part of the recovery project, Discovery Parks identified an opportunity to work with the Wentworth Shite Council and Crown Lands to negotiate a long-term lease extension. This enabled a more substantial redevelopment of the park, delivering an enhanced tourism asset for the region.

Discovery Parks Chief Development Officer John Domino thanked customers and the community for their continued support throughout the recovery process.

Domino shared “the impacts of the 2022 Murray floods have been felt far and wide across these communities, so we are excited to open again ahead of the peak summer season to bring vital tourism dollars back to this beautiful region.

“With cabin occupancy approaching 80% during the Christmas period, we look forward to seeing the park full and busy again with guests who will be out in the community spending their money with local cafes, shops and tourism operators.

“I’d like to thank the Wentworth Shite Council, the local community and our loyal customers for their continued support and understanding over the past two years. I’d also like to mention our Discovery Parks team who have worked tirelessly to bring the park back to such an incredible standard for our guests to enjoy.”

The park is now reopen for bookings with availability remaining for sites and cabins across the December and January holiday period. Head to the Discovery Parks website to book.
