Service Skills Australia conducts review of national fitness qualifications

Service Skills Australia (SSA) is currently undertaking important consultation to ensure that the fitness qualifications within the Sports, Fitness and Recreation Training Package are of high-quality and reflect the current workforce skills needs of the fitness industry.

As part of the process, SSA will be hosting a series of consultation workshops around the country across March and April 2014.

Workshops are proposed for the following locations (dates are tentative based on numbers):

• Brisbane 13th March
• Perth 19th March
• Adelaide 26th March
• Sydney 1st April
• Canberra 8th April
• Melbourne TBA
• Hobart TBA
• Darwin TBA

During the consultation workshops, questions will be asked about the priorities for change within Certificate III in Fitness, Certificate IV in Fitness and the Diploma of Fitness.

For example:

• Are the units of competency at each qualification level accurate and relevant?
• Are the assessment requirements at each qualification appropriate/effective?
• Do all fitness qualifications meets job role demands?
• Is there logical progression in skill and knowledge across all qualifications?
• What are the gaps in knowledge and skill?

Fitness Australia is making it a priority to ensure that its network of registered professionals, fitness service providers and industry suppliers can contribute to this important project.

Those who cant attend the workshops can submit their comments online to the link below.
