Leisure/service industry careers highlighted as part of National Skills Week

A Service Skills Australia TV program on leisure/service industry careers, focussing on the various support roles that assist the Cricket NSW Blues, will be broadcast tomorrow morning (Friday 30th August) as part of National Skills Week.

The program, 'Active Careers in Service Skills' will be broadcast from 7.30am to 8am on the Aurora Community Channel and will be reshown on free-to-air TV4ME (Channel 74).

One of 11 industry skills councils funded by the Australian Government to support skills development, Service Skills Australia represents a range of industry sectors, including retail and wholesale, sport, fitness, community recreation, outdoor recreation, travel, tours, meetings and events, accommodation, restaurants and catering, caravans, hairdressing, beauty, floristry, community pharmacy and funeral services.

Service Skills Australia is a comprehensive source of expert, independent advice for industry, training organisations and employees, students and jobseekers about skills development in the service industries.

Being held from 26th August to 1st September, National Skills Week sets out to bring to life the positive messages, highlighting the talents, the skills, the career pathways and the value of apprentices and trainees across Australia to the wider public and employers. Now in its third year, the week is dedicated to raising the status of practical and vocational learning.

Last year during National Skills Week over 400 events took place nationwide.
