Road reopening restores access to Falls Creek Alpine Resort
Falls Creek Alpine Resort (FCAR) has announced that the re-opening of the Bogong High Plains Road today, two days earlier than expected, has restored access to the winter sport resort.
With road access between Falls Creek and Mount Beauty closed to the public since October last year due to a landslip, Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) has opened a 300 metre stretch of single lane access to the public.
Traffic management remains in place due to work continuing at the site between the hours of 8am and 4pm, seven days a week, to achieve a permanent fix for dual-lane access - with drivers asked to allow an extra 15 minutes in their travel plans to accommodate this.
The Falls Creek Community has been busy preparing for another great winter and welcome the re-opening of the road to all our visitors for another fantastic winter season in our beautiful mountain village.
Winter 2023, as is tradition, will kick off on 10th June with the Opening Weekend Festival, with FCAR aiming for the season to be its biggest and best winter of events yet.
To contribute to this, FCAR has invested in fun for families this winter with a brand-new magic carpet at the toboggan park, which will be free for all to use for their snow play delight.
Looking back on the difficulties of recent months, FCAR Chief Operating Officer, Stuart Smythe stated “our stakeholders and businesses need to be commended on their resilience, having endured business disruption on a scale not experienced by any other businesses or tourism attractions, following the turmoil of the last three years.
“Bushfire, pandemics and then a landslip isolating the village and severely impacting their operations. The light at the end of the tunnel is now in sight and they are rebounding to make sure our guests and community get to experience all that Falls Creek is famous for.
“All winters are amazing, some just more so than others, but we intend to make sure anyone visiting the resort has an experience of a lifetime experiencing all that Falls Creek has to offer, now that the road is open.”
Lisa Logan, President of Falls Creek Chamber of Commerce, added “we appreciate the work of MRPV and DoT for getting access secured in what has proved to be a very challenging process.
“This period of the road closure has had a significant impact on our community. However, now we can look forward to a busy and successful winter. We hope that our guests and visitors can support us beyond the snow season and come back for our wonderful array of summer experiences and events.”
FCAR is currently recruiting staff ahead of its winter season.
