Popular Melbourne Cable Park to add high ropes course
Opened earlier this year, the high ropes course at the Melbourne Cable Park in Melbourne’s south east is to install a high ropes course from leading international manufacturer KristallTurm.
An addition to the popular Bangholme attraction - which also offers an inflatable Aqua Fun Park and a cable water sports including water skiing, wake boarding, kayaking, canoeing and stand-up paddle boarding - the high ropes course will be developed thanks to a $600,000 grant from the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments as part of the Tourism Demand Driver Infrastructure Program.
The attraction is set to draw more than 100,000 visitors to the region each year and create more than 160 jobs, generating $60 million in economic benefit in its first year of operation.
The adventure leisure attraction, which is spread over 11 hectares of Crown land and is managed by Victoria's Department of Environment, Land Water and Planning, had 23,000 people through the gates to try out the inflatable water obstacle course in the first few months following its opening at the start of the year.
Commenting on the expansion, Victorian Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren said the Victorian Government supported local tourism operators to bring even more visitors to the region, which he says "means more jobs and a stronger economy.”
Member for Mordialloc Tim Richardson said the Melbourne Cable Park was already proving to be a popular drawcard for locals and tourists adding “these ropes will take it to new heights.”
The Tourism Demand Driver Infrastructure Program was created to help local organisations upgrade or build new infrastructure to attract visitors from Australia and overseas.
When completed the park will have two full lake cable systems, two tower systems - one of which will be on a dedicated beginner lake, High Ropes Adventure Challenge with over 90 graded challenge activities and the aquatic playground.
