Zip line attraction to traverse Cairns Wildlife Dome's crocodile enclosure

The Cairns ZOOm, a flying fox/zip line and adventure-themed attraction, is set to open at the Cairns Wildlife Dome on top of the north Queensland city's Reef Hotel Casino.

The adventure attraction, set to open in the coming weeks, includes challenge rope courses, flying fox/zip lines, internal and external dome walks with the flying fox/zip line having an added thrill, as it travels over an enclosure occupied by Goliath - a four-metre long, 700 kilogram crocodile.

A lookout at the top of the attraction, offering views across Cairns, its hinterland and the seas, also offers a 13 metre power drop.

The new attraction includes a number of different elements which to challenge guests personally, physically and mentally. Challenge ropes courses encourage creative problem solving; teamwork and co-operation and also challenge the individual to push their own boundaries and comfort level.

The ropes courses will also aim to help create a great sense of achievement in the participant when they complete the course and is therefore a positive and fun experience.

The $1 million attraction, developed by Cairns tourism entrepreneurs Charles and Philippa Woodward will operate, according to Charles Woodward, to meet "the highest safety and security standards" and would protect the welfare of its animals and birds, including Goliath. Woodward stresses that no-rider could fall in to Goliath's pen, neither could the saltwater crocodile rear up to devour any guests zipping overhead.

General Manager Michael Woodward told The Cairns Post "theres absolutely nothing like this in Cairns where youll get a taste of adventure and a taste of wildlife in the convenience of the city."

The Cairns Wildlife Dome is an all-weather wildlife exhibit encased by a 20-metre high glass dome on the rooftop of the Reef Hotel Casino.

The attraction offers the opportunity for guests to interact with tropical Australian wildlife and features over 100 species of native birds who fly freely around the Dome, wallabies who roam the rainforest surroundings plus koalas, possums, pythons, lizards and Goliath.
