P!nk concerts attract 6,000 visitors to Perth

Pop superstar P!nk's four sold out Perth Arena shows attracted 6,000 overseas and interstate visitors to Western Australia, injecting nearly $9 million into the local economy, boosting the hospitality industry and supporting jobs.

One-in-four concertgoers travelled from outside Perth to attend, with a further 10,600 people visiting from regional Western Australia.

Some hotels recorded as much as a 300% uplift in revenue last week, with the total number of hotel night bookings expected to have exceeded 11,000.

The Australian Hotels Association has lauded the concert's success in boosting the local hospitality industry. Accommodation booking service Wotif and Western Australian hospitality entrepreneur Andy Freeman also reported excellent trade.

The Western Australian Government is keen to highlight that benefits from Perth Arena concerts travel far beyond the metropolitan areas, with half of visiting concertgoers reporting they planned to travel into regional Western Australia as part of their visit.

Demand for accommodation in Perth immediately increased when P!nk tickets went on sale last October. Year-on-year travel interest increased by 135% in the Perth CBD last week, and by 60% in Northbridge.

Upcoming acts at Perth Arena include Katy Perry, Celine Dion and Bob Dylan.

Commenting on the impact of P!nk’s concerts, Western Australian Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray stated "P!nk's concerts have provided another shot in the arm to Western Australia's hospitality industry and demonstrate the value of our world-class Perth Arena in boosting the local economy and creating jobs.

"With one in four concertgoers visiting from outside Perth, local restaurants, hotels, bars, retail outlets and other small businesses saw millions of dollars of benefits.

"Importantly, regional WA got its share of the pie – with half of all visiting concertgoers planning to venture outside the metropolitan area as part of their trip."
