2016 Billboard Touring Awards recognises the best of the global concert industry
Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Brand took home Top Tour honours and Coldplay won both the Top Draw and Top Boxscore category at the 13th annual Billboard Touring Conference & Awards, which recognises the best of the global concert industry, in Beverly Hills, California last week.
Presented by Billboard, the leading global destination for charts, news, business, lifestyle and innovations in music, and hosted by American Idol Season One’s Brian Dunkleman, the Touring Awards honours the industry’s top achievers in categories including Top Festival, Top Arena, Top Manager and Top Comedy Tour. The winners are based on Billboard’s Boxscore chart data, which tracks gate receipts for concerts, comedy shows and other live events.
Bon Jovi, who has grossed well over $1 billion in ticket sales around the world in the past decade, was named the 2016 Legend of Live for the band’s significant impact on the touring industry.
Scooter Bruan, Founder of SB Projects, was named the 2016 Humanitarian for his ongoing philanthropic efforts. Hip-hop star Raury performed at the event held for the first time in Los Angeles.
Against the backdrop of a steady decline in album sales, live music is stronger than ever, with double-digit growth nearly every year of the past decade, legions of fans flocking nightly to shows from clubs to stadiums and some US$20 billion a year in global ticket sales, according to Billboard estimates.
Driving that business are not only artists but promoters, managers, booking agents, festival organisers and venues.
On the business side, the Billboard Touring Conference featured topical sessions on 'Serving the Uber Fan' and 'Presenting Safe & Secure Events in a Dangerous World'.
