Etihad Stadium gets global recognition as an entertainment venue
Etihad Stadium has achieved enormous international recognition, being ranked the third most successful stadium globally by the famous US music magazine, Billboard.
The Docklands venue brought in $29 million in gross ticket revenue for concerts between November 2013 to November 2014 only to be surpassed by the New Jersey’s Metlife Stadium and the Tokyo Dome and ahead of venues like London’s Wembley Stadium and the Stade de France in Paris.
During that time six shows, attended by 231,874 fans came through the Etihad Stadium turnstiles to watch some of the world’s biggest artists including Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift, Eminem and Justin Timberlake.
Etihad Stadium Chief Execuitve Paul Sergeant said the results were validation that the versatile Docklands venue is a major asset to Melbourne competing on the vibrant world stage of live music attracting the very best entertainment to the City.
Sergeant explained “the live music scene is currently really strong in Australia and the results are terrific for us because we had a range of artists perform in a variety of concert modes which demonstrates the versatility of our venue to accommodate these artists.
And numbers will continue during Feburary next year when the Etihad Stadium will host two One Direction concerts occurring (14th and 15th February) and the Foo Fighters (28th February).
Looking beyond those concerts, Sergeant concludes “keep an eye out for even more announcements - the action never stops here.”
