Etihad Stadium to allow fans BYO
AFL fans will be able to bring food and drink purchased from outside providers into Etihad Stadium next season, in a move strongly linked to supporter feedback.
AFL.com.au has reported that stadium management allowed will allow 'BYO' in as a trial towards the end of last season, and the trial will continue during AFL games next year.
Stadium Chief Executive Paul Sergeant told SEN Radio on Monday (8th December) that they had taken on board the strong feedback from fans.
Sergeant explained "it is something we have been talking to the AFL about and was driven by us and our catering partners Delaware North.
"It's a calculated risk - but you look at what people want, and if they want to sample catering from outside and bring it in, we'll accept that."
Sergeant said the stadium would introduce further fan-friendly initiatives during AFL match days next year, adding "everyone has taken on board the messages that have come back towards the AFL, clubs and venues, and we're working to make the experience better."
Etihad Stadium is yet to carrify how the trial will work but it would appear unlikely that the offer extends to alcohol and will instead include smaller F&B items.
