Parramatta’s Pirtek Stadium to get $29 million upgrade
The battle over the planning of a $29 million upgrade to Parramatta’s Pirtek Stadium has been settled, with work to begin within weeks on the addition of 4,000 seats at the ends of the ground for Western Sydney Wanderers and Parramatta Eels fans.
Earlier this week, Federal Minister for Sport Peter Dutton and NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation Stuart Ayres announced the finalised scope of the upgrade, following consultation and agreement with the Stadium’s two major hirers.
The upgrade includes:
• Rebuilding the players changerooms to contemporary international standards
• An additional 2,000 seats behind the existing terraces at the north and south ends (4,000 in total)
• A seating upgrade and replacement throughout the Stadium
• Wi-Fi connectivity
• Replacement of the turf surface
• Installation of LED screens and signage
Minister Ayres says the upgrade has been a long time coming for western Sydney, stating “with an extra 2,000 seats added to each end of the ground, so 4,000 in total, the fans will be closer to the action than ever before.
"We have upgraded the big screens and improved the amenity of the ground.
"These improvements will breathe new life into one of western Sydney's key sporting precincts.”
Minister Dutton said the upgrade will significantly enhance the fans’ game day
experiences at Pirtek Stadium, adding “i will provide great benefits to sports fans and local sporting teams with services and amenities revamped for both spectators and players. This is great boost to western Sydney’s sports facilities.
The potential impact of the project on the hirers has been discussed with procedures in place from all parties to ensure the Stadium is operational during the project works.
This is a $29 million project - $20 million from the Commonwealth Government, $6 million from Venues NSW and $3 million to come from Parramatta City Council.
