Opera comes to Sunshine Castle

This weekend will see Bli Bli's Sunshine Castle welcome The Underground Opera Company for the latest in their series of 'Opera in the Castle' concerts.

Resonating through the magnificent Great Hall, some of Australia's finest voices will perform a selection of pieces from popular operas and musical theatre showstoppers.

The Underground Opera Company is making waves around regional and rural Australia because of its preference for below ground venues.

As Producer Bruce Edwards explains "the reason we like to perform underground is for the incredible acoustics, however, where there is no suitable underground venue we search for the best acoustics on the surface. We have found this at the Sunshine Castle, Bli Bli.

"The beauty of our concerts is that repertoire will enrapture any audience while the quality of the performers will elate the most ardent opera aficionado."

Edwards said performances were also planned at other spectacular venue around the country and the list is getting bigger, adding "our program of annual and bi-annual concerts is expanding rapidly. We have been investigating more venues around the country and are very excited about the future. What we have found will certainly fit our motto of 'extraordinary performances in breathtaking spaces'."

Being held on 20th, 21st and 22nd May, Opera in the Castle will feature a magnificent cast of Australia's finest performing pieces from classic musicals such as Les Miserables and Cats as well as popular opera greats from Lakme, Rigoletto, the immortal Nessen Dorma from Turandot and many more.

A reception will be held in the Castle Courtyard.

The Sunshine Castle on Queensland's Sunshine Coast is a Norman style Castle complete with moat, turrets, towers and drawbridge. A unique attraction in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere, the Castle is a significant landmark and regional visitor attraction.

The castle is currently being offered for sale, with tenders closing on 30th June.
