One Playground opens boutique gym in Western Sydney

The opening in western Sydney of boutique gym, One Playground Merrylands, is set to redefine the fitness and wellness experience with designs inspired from the luxury of Dubai and Morocco.

Spanning over two levels and 3,000 square metres, it is the brand’s most expansive and advanced gym to date – offering an all-encompassing wellness experience.

Designed to cater to all fitness levels, One Playground Merrylands features a 1,500-square-metre gym floor equipped with over 100 cutting-edge machines, including Technogym cardio equipment, custom Gym80 strength gear, and exclusive Watson dumbbells. A dedicated Comfort Zone provides a quieter space for those who prefer a more relaxed strength-training environment.

With over 300 classes per week across six purpose-built studios, members can train across a wide variety of formats, from high-energy strength and conditioning in Force, to boxing in Legacy, and mindful movement in Space. These are just a few of the dedicated studio spaces designed to deliver immersive, boutique-style experiences within the larger gym environment.

The offering also includes semi-private studios, reformer Pilates, and a tranquil recovery zone featuring private infrared saunas and communal traditional saunas.

Justin Ashley, Chief Executive and co-founder One Playground, notes “One Playground Merrylands is our most exciting project to date. It's an ambitious design on an enormous scale, unlike anything else in the world.

“When we started this project three years ago, it was always more than ‘just another gym’. Our goal was to bring a world-class health and wellness destination to Western Sydney. It’s incredible to see it come to life.”

The design draws inspiration from the luxury of Dubai and Morocco. Mason and Main’s soaring 5.5-metre ceilings and elegant arched windows create a breath-taking space, while the lobby’s terracotta-rendered walls, natural stone accents, and micro cement floors set a sophisticated tone. Beyond the arched breezeblock gateway, a custom pink marble drinking fountain anchors the wellness lounge, with unexpected, beautiful details woven throughout.
