Four New Faces on NBL Commission
Basketball Australia (BA) has confirmed that the National Basketball League (NBL) Commission will see four new faces for the 2010/11 season, with BA Board Member Bruce Spangler also assuming the role of NBL Commission Chair.
Spangler, who has served as a BA representative on the NBL Commission since its formation, will replace Diane Smith-Gander as Chair after she vacated the role to take on the position of Chair of the BA Board.
As part of the regular rotation of club-nominated representatives as outlined in the NBL Commission's Terms of Reference, three additional new members have also been appointed.
New Zealand Breakers General Manager Richard Clarke, Melbourne Tigers owner Seamus McPeake and long-time Townsville Crocodiles stakeholder Donnie Harris have all been appointed to the NBL Commission.
The trio will replace out-going club-nominated NBL Commission members Ian Smythe, Paul Blackwell and Andrew Vlahov, whose set terms expired recently.
BA Board member Justin Milne will also join the Commission to fill the vacancy left by the departure of Smith-Gander.
The NBL Commission is one of BA's five strategic commissions and was established to govern the NBL.
NBL Commission Members are:
Bruce Spangler - Chair (BA)
Justin Milne (BA)
Larry Sengstock (BA)
Richard Clarke
Seamus McPeake
Donnie Harris
Wayne Morris
BA has also confirmed that Scott Derwin has been appointed as the new NBL Tribunal Chairperson for the 2010/11 season. Derwin replaces former long-time NBL Tribunal Chairperson Ken Madsen who decided to step down from the role following 21 years of outstanding performance in the position.
The 2010/11 NBL season tips-off on 15th October.
