The Y announces opening date for Oberon’s new indoor fitness centre

With construction of Oberon’s new $925,000 indoor fitness centre nearing completion, the YMCA NSW (the Y) has today announced an official open date of 23rd August. Oberon is situated in the Greater Blue Mountains region of NSW.

The Y commenced management of the Oberon Swimming and Fitness Centre in October 2019.

Area Manager Shane Simmons is encouraging everyone to get inspired to trial the gym on the opening day which will consist of a day of activities for the community following an official ribbon cutting with Government representatives.

Simmons enthuses “it is fantastic to see the community’s dream for a dedicated Fitness Centre come to fruition. Oberon deserves access to as many health and wellness opportunities as possible and the Y is thrilled to be able to expand the offering at this first-class gym.

“Our goal is for the Oberon Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre to be a community hub with something for everyone. A wide range of cardio function and strength equipment is being installed as we speak and we are planning an exciting timetable of fitness classes for all ages and abilities.”

Council estimates that 10 Full Time Equivalent jobs were generated in the economy during the construction phases of the project. The Oberon Indoor Fitness Centre was jointly funded by the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund, the Australian Government’s Drought Communities Programme and Oberon Council.

Oberon Mayor Kathy Sajowitz adds “the community of Oberon overwhelmingly supported the concept of a Fitness Centre, identifying it as an area of need for all age groups. I would like to mention Chris Doyle who was a great motivator and advocate in the early days. To see this concept become reality is rewarding and most welcome. As a council we are thankful for the funding allocated from the NSW State Government and the Australian Government to enable the project, which will deliver huge community benefit.”

A range of flexible membership options including direct debit will be on offer.  The community can express interest in a membership online now at https://www.ymcansw.org.au/promotion/fitness-oberon/
