NSW Government invests in Surf Life Saving Clubs

The NSW Government has announced $2 million in funding to improve facilities at 12 Surf Life Saving Clubs as part of its Surf Club Facility Grant Program.

Announcing the funding, NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation Gabrielle Upton stated "the program assists with funding both major and minor projects at surf life saving clubs across NSW.

"Projects funded include renovating clubhouses, installing sun shelters, improving amenities, increasing storage facilities and installing disabled access.

"Modern facilities make surf life saving activities more accessible which in turn encourages participation and improves beach goer safety.

"By investing in surf life saving clubs, the NSW Government is also helping to improve the health and wellbeing of our local communities."

With 129 clubs and almost 77,000 members, Surf Life Saving NSW is one of the largest volunteer movements in Australia.

Surf Life Saving NSW President Tony Haven highlighted that surf lifesaving volunteers contribute more than 550,000 hours each season keeping the public safe on NSW beaches.

Haven explained "our dedicated volunteers, ordinary men and women who give up their time to protect the public, deserve to have safe and appropriate facilities in which to train and store vital rescue equipment.

"We are extremely pleased to see the NSW Government recognise the tremendous contribution of our members by supporting them in this way."

Surf Club Facility Grant Program recipients are:

Yamba Surf Life Saving Club - Replacing damaged windows and doors on the east side of the club house. $5,500

Tacking Point Surf Life Saving Club - Disabled access & toilet amenities upgrade. $250,000

Batemans Bay Surf Life Saving Club - Remodelling of the auditorium including major structural repairs. $305,000

Kempsey Crescent Head Surf Life Saving Club - Demolition and construction of a new purpose built facility including a First Aid Room, storage facility, change facilities, kiosk and conference room. $305,000

North Entrance Surf Life Saving Club - Complete renovation of men's and ladies toilet areas. $24,500

Macksville Scotts Head Surf Life Saving Club - Enhancing and extending surf club storage facilities and disabled toilets. $65,000

Tea Gardens Hawks Nest SLSC Clubhouse revitalisation - $305,000

Pacific Palms SLSC Upgrade beach access/ramp - $15,000

Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club - Reconfiguration of existing building to accommodate disabled access. $90,000

Birubi Point Surf Life Saving Club - Stage Two of building project. $260,000

North Cronulla - Refurbishment of Harry Brown room, kitchen and toilets. $70,000

Salt Surf Life Saving Club - Development of new surf club facilities. $305,000
