New Auckland program to boost business events

Auckland Mayor Len Brown has launched an initiative that will see 14 city leaders represent the city on the world stage – boosting its bidding for international business events.

Launched at an investiture ceremony on 20th May, the Auckland Business Events Advocate Programme included advocates representing sectors spanning health, medical, education and ICT. As part of the programme, these advocates will work closely with the Auckland Convention Bureau (ACB), a division of Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED).

Introducing the program, Mayor Brown described the Auckland advocates as highly regarded both at home and abroad, recognised for their professional achievements, passion in their field and dedication in promoting Auckland as a global events destination.

Mayor Brown stated “Auckland has benefited from impressive growth in the business events sector.

“The 14 advocates already boast a proven track record. Collectively, they have secured $8.5 million worth of business events to Auckland since 2011.”

ATEED Chief Executive Brett O’Riley welcomed the advocates on board saying business events are a key factor for destinations seeking a global brand, adding “advocate programmes abroad are highly successful and essential in achieving on-going success in the highly competitive business events sector.

“ACB’s role is to engage and inspire influential leaders to increase activity across key priority business events sectors.

“The Auckland Business Events Advocate Programme aims to generate more leads, more bids and a higher conversion rate of winning bids.”
