High praise for Adelaide Oval RoofClimb

The spectacular Adelaide Oval RoofClimb has been acknowledged  for boosting tourism in the South Australian capital.

Opened in March, the experience allows visitors to explore the impressive, curved roof of one of the world’s great sporting venues, providing 360-degree views of the playing surface and city beyond.

On a visit last week, Australia’s Assistant Minister for Trade Tourism and Investment, Keith Pitt, said new tourism infrastructure like RoofClimb would help support jobs and growth in South Australia.

Assistant Minister Pitt stated “RoofClimb is literally a breath-taking experience for visitors to South Australia and will complement the state’s other great attractions including its wine country and the Tour Down Under.

“Tourism is vital for South Australia and our economy nationally. It employs around one in 12 Australians and accounts for 9.6% of Australia’s exports.

“The Government is actively supporting the development of new infrastructure and capacity for the industry through the Tourism 2020 strategy.”

Assistant Minister Pitt’s visit came after it was announced by Cricket Australia that Adelaide would host the first ever Ashes Day-Night Test next year.

He added “there’s no doubt that the Ashes series is a huge draw-card for both domestic and international visitors and Adelaide will reap the benefits of hosting this game.”

In 2015/16, there were over 50,000 international visitors and 327,000 domestic visitors to Adelaide’s River Torrens Precinct, which includes Adelaide Oval.

South Australia more broadly received 422,000 international visitors, 6,068,000 domestic overnight trips and 13,221,000 daytrips in 2015/16 – a 14% increase in total visitation on the previous year.

Assistant Minister Pitt concluded “visitor expenditure increased by a corresponding 11%, with a AUD 5.95 billion injection into South Australia’s visitor economy in 2015/16.”

RoofClimb is the first attraction of its type to provide rooftop seating and features an adrenalin-boosting lean-out point, 50 metres above the southern goal square. Groups of up to 14 people are led by specially trained RoofClimb Leaders.

The attraction recently won the Best New Tourism Business at the 2016 South Australian Tourism Awards. Adelaide Oval Tourism and Museums won the Cultural Tourism category at the same awards.

The RoofClimb adventure includes:

• A two hour (approximate) guided experience.
• A dedicated RoofClimb Leader.
• An intimate group size with a maximum of 14 participants.
• Full briefing and safety instructions.
• Provision of a custom RoofClimb suit.
• Personal secure locker for the duration of the RoofClimb.
• Provision of safety harness and audio system with over-ear piece to listen to entertaining local commentary.
