Adelaide Oval to offer roof climb visitor experience
The Adelaide Oval is to offer thrillseekers and visitors to the South Australian capital the opportunity to climb on the roof of the landmark venue.
Echoing bridge climbing experiences in Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland and a similar attraction at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, South Africa, the Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority (AOSMA) aims for the venture to become a tourism drawcard for South Australia.
To be known as Roof Climb Adelaide Oval, the experience is due to open next March, letting people walk across the top of the oval on a purpose-built path from the western stand to the riverbank stand.
There will be 16 seats on the roof of the riverbank stand where fans can relax and take in the spectacular view of the city and Adelaide's suburbs beyond.
AOSMA Chairman John Olsen said the upgraded oval was about to become even more exciting for sports fans, stating “in the two years since its reopening, Adelaide Oval has captured the world's attention and imagination in a way few could have foreseen.
"Now it's about to get even better. Seemingly, everyone who visits the Adelaide Oval wants to admire its architecture, breathe its history, walk its hallowed turf, talk about it, photograph it, video it and share it.
"Roof Climb Adelaide Oval will take that to the next level."
Olson said anyone wanting an extra adrenalin rush would be able to lean out over the ground while tethered by a harness.
Stadium Chief Executive Andrew Daniels from the stadium authority said fans could look forward to a unique experience, adding “tThe opportunity to sit on the roof of the Adelaide Oval, directly above the goal square looking down on to a game, looking down onto this beautiful grass, I don't think that happens anywhere else in the world.”
The climbs will be offered during daytime, at sunset and at night and children aged 12 and above will be allowed to join adults for the walk across the top of the venue.
