Amer Sports enjoys eighth consecutive year of growth

International sporting goods company Amer Sports, the owner of global brands including Salomon, Precor, Wilson, Atomic, Arc'teryx, Mavic and Suunto, has announced an eighth consecutive year of financial growth.

With consumer shopping behaviour changing rapidly, to achieve this broad-based improvement Amer Sports has transformed its commercial business model, investing significantly into its commercial omni-channel transformation and direct consumer engagement, with focus on long-term health and value creation.

2017 also saw the company continue to create short-term value as it achieved record results in three of its four strategic financial targets: record sales, record cash flow, and strongest ever balance sheet.

Commenting on the results, Amer Sports President and Chief Executive Heikki Takala explained "we finished 2017 with a strong fourth quarter, driven again by our strategic acceleration priorities soft goods, direct to consumer, and China.

“We (also) continued to accelerate growth in fitness and sports equipment (and) continued to make winter sports equipment stronger, with solid growth and improving profitability. At the same time, in a turbulent market, we did have challenges to drive target growth, especially in ball sports and cycling, and work remains to re-ignite them.”

Amer Sports’ net sales through the fourth quarter of 2017 (October to December) totalled US$990.1 million compared to US$952.2 million in the corresponding period of 2016.

Net sales for the year were US$3310.2 million compared to US$3232 million for 2016.

The company's technically advanced sports equipment, footwear and apparel improve performance and increase the enjoyment of sports and outdoor activities while Amer Sports’ business is balanced by its broad portfolio of sports and products and a presence in all major markets.

Amer Sports shares are listed on the Nasdaq Helsinki stock exchange (AMEAS).
