Cricket Victoria to participate in Global Super League T20 Competition

Cricket Victoria has advised of its participation in the inaugural Global Super League (GSL) T20 competition, taking place from 26th November to 7th December 2024 in Guyana.

Franchises from cricket's five leading nations will be competing for $1.5milllion in prize money when the new T20 league kicks off in Guyana - further proof of the format's growing popularity.

Cricket Victoria’s squad will join a competitive lineup of teams in the GSL from an array of international competitions, including the Guyana Amazon Warriors (Carribbean Premier League), Lahore Qalandars (Pakistan Super League), Hampshire CCC (England County Cricket), and Rangpur Riders (Bangladesh Premier League).

GSL chairman and former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd advised "we are looking forward to welcoming the teams to our beautiful country where we are sure the action on the field will be fantastic.

"These are five well known cricketing entities and we know that their fans from around the world will be tuning in to see them compete for the inaugural GSL title."

Teams will play each other once in a league format before the top two meet in the final on 6th Dec.

Cricket Victoria Chief Executive Nick Cummins enthused “we are delighted to participate in this exciting new competition in the Caribbean. The GSL presents a fantastic opportunity for players across our network to get valuable match time against high quality opposition.”

The tournament continues to build on Cricket Victoria’s global footprint, including the  existing partnership with the San Francisco Unicorns. Up to six players from the Unicorns, who were runners-up in MLC02, will join the Victorian squad.

Cricket Victoria’s squad will comprise a blend of BBL-contracted players, emerging Victorian talent, and players from the San Francisco Unicorns. The team will be captained by San Francisco Unicorns captain Corey Anderson and will feature a lineup expected to include Netherlands captain Scott Edwards, Renegades batter Jon Wells, and England and Melbourne Stars player Joe Clarke.

The team will be coached by BBL|13 championship coach (Brisbane Heat) and current T20 Performance Manager for the Melbourne Renegades, Wade Seccombe.

Cricket Victoria’s first match will be against the Guyana Amazon Warriors on Friday, 29th November at Guyana National Stadium in Providence.
