Mornington Peninsula Shire Council awards construction tender for Rosebud Aquatic Centre

The Mornington Peninsula Shire Council has awarded a $35.82 million contract for the construction of the Rosebud Aquatic Centre.

Having considered five tender submissions, Councillors awarded the contract to Melbourne-based Buxton Constructions at an open Council meeting held on 24th June.

Buxton Constructions having previously completed Geelong Leisurelink, the Croydon Aquatic Centre and the refurbishment of Ascot Vale Sports and Fitness Centre.

Announcing the milestone for the aquatic centre project, Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor David Gill, stated “we are pleased to announce the successful construction tenderer, as they will help us to deliver a high-quality facility that will benefit our community and improve community health.

“The project is a significant investment, with Council contributing $2 million from asset sales, accessing a low-cost state government loan for $10 million, with the remaining funds to be borrowed from the market at the best rate.”

Mayor Gill also announced that a $5 million Federal Government grant had also been secured for the project.

Construction of the new facility is set to start this month, keeping the project on track to be delivered by late 2020. Key highlights of the construction will include environmental design features to improve efficiency throughout the building.

A community celebration event that included a smoking ceremony and the turning of the first sod on the project.

The Council is currently looking for an experienced and knowledgeable operator to work alongside it under a fee for service agreement to manage the operations of the new facility.
