Monopoly Dreams indoor theme park opens in Melbourne

The world’s second indoor Monopoly themed attraction, Monopoly Dreams, has opened in Melbourne.

With its opening having been pushed back several times, the experience, based on the perennially popular Hasbro board game, finally opened its doors at Melbourne Central on Lonsdale Street on Wednesday.

The $20 million, 1650 metre² attraction features famous landmarks, iconic characters (including Mr. Monopoly) and exciting ‘escape room’ style challenges spread across 15 attractions, including a 4D theatre and a chance wheel.

After passing go at the entrance, guests get to explore two distinct areas: Monopoly City and Monopoly Mansion, with the two zones inspired by Melbourne and featuring trams and street art.

Guests can also win Monopoly money that can then be spent at the attraction's café or retail store.

Only the second of its kind in the world, after the first Monopoly Dreams in Hong Kong, the opening date was pushed back from the originally announced dates several times due to "unforseen circumstances".

Introducing the experience, Monopoly Dreams General Manager, Mark Connolly stated “our team has worked tirelessly to create an immersive experience that captures the essence of Monopoly and transports guests into a magical world of excitement and imagination.

"The opening of Monopoly Dreams has been highly anticipated by Monopoly fans since the news broke that we'd be making Melbourne our home.

"We are absolutely thrilled to now be opening the doors and welcoming guests into the incredible world of Mr Monopoly."
