Mariners move forward with YMCA Swim School and Centre of Excellence
Having opened its aquatic centre and swim school in July, work on stage two of Central Coast Mariners Centre of Excellence is now underway.
A recent ceremony attended by local dignitaries saw the beginning of the removal of the Tuggerah RSL building at the site, making way for a modern, six-story office block housing - among many businesses - the Mariners’ administrative department.
The block will also feature a childcare centre, cafe and gym, and the remaining space will be available to be tenanted by local, national and international businesses and business people.
In addition to the office block, a new business precinct will boast a number of on-site facilities and services including an expansive Medical Centre, all weather and grass sporting fields, plus the Club’s recently completed aquatic centre, managed by the YMCA.
Club Chairman and Owner Michael Charlesworth explains, “our vision is to turn the site into the business and sporting hub on the Central Coast.
“With the future planned development of a hotel and an extensive hospitality and function precinct, there will be no better location on the Coast to do business.”
Offering a single 25 metre, eight lane pool, the YMCA Swim School is specialising in providing swimming lessons and programs that meet local needs.
As Charlesworth adds, “one of the primary aims of the Centre is to offer facilities that help to improve the lives of people in the local community,” Charlesworth said.
YMCA Swim School Centre Manager Darren Crumpler says learning to swimming is an important skill for life.
Crumpler explains “swimming lessons are an essential part of every child’s education (and) at the Y, our programs go beyond stroke correction and equip children with skills that can be transferred to other, potentially dangerous water situations.”
Usage of the facilities within the Mariners Centre of Excellence already sees an average of 2,000 people use the site’s Soccer5s courts while an estimated 75,000 people are expected to pass through the Club’s Medical Centre each year.
The Club also hosts its Foxtel National Youth League matches on the site.
