YMCA to manage UNSW aquatic and fitness facilities
The YMCA has announced that it has successfully tendered for the management of the University of New South Wales' (UNSW) aquatic, fitness and recreation facilities, following a competitive tender selection process.
The Y is delighted to have been awarded the contract to manage UNSW's multipurpose recreation facility, with this being the Y's first venture into university recreation management in NSW, with UNSW being the first university in the State to outsource management. However, the YMCA has a wealth of experience managing similar facilities for both Deakin and Swinburne University in Victoria.
The new management contract will see the Y partner with UNSW for at least three years and will come into effect in January 2013.
YMCA of NSW Chief Executive Phillip Hare explained that the Y is proud to be partnering with one of the leading universities in the world to provide a range of programs and services that will benefit students and the broader community.
Hare stated "the Y is all about providing opportunities for people to connect to their communities and live happier, healthier lives and through this new partnership we are looking forward to seeing more people use the facility and enjoying our programs.
"UNSW has over 50,000 students, including more than 13,000 international students, as well as over 5,000 staff, so there is a lot of opportunities to see many more of the community engage in active lifestyles."
The University's aquatic, fitness and recreation facilities span 5,765 metre² and include the following services:
• 50 metre pool and steam room
• Five squash courts
• Health Club comprising two group fitness rooms, multi-purpose room, spin room and separate green gym
• Two-court stadium
• Swim school
• Child-minding
• Café
The Y is the largest provider of aquatic and leisure management in NSW, delivering industry-leading programs and services to over 40 communities across NSW.
