Legoland Malaysia to expand with new waterpark

After the successful opening of Legoland Malaysia theme park last year, the attraction is set to expand with the opening of the first Legoland Water Park in Asia.

Set to open in October, the Legoland Water Park will feature more than 20 slides and over 70 Lego models for families with children aged between two and 12 years.

Highlights of the new waterpark are expected to be Build-A-Raft River and Joker Soaker.

The first is a unique concept where children can customise their own raft with soft LEGO bricks before floating down a lazy river. The latter is a fun interactive platform in the wade pool where children can play with water cannons as a Lego jester model ' tells' jokes while 350 gallons of water pour down upon them.

The water park, which is currently 70% completed, will compliment the RM700 million theme park which occupies 30 hectare site in Iskandar Malaysia.

Introducing the waterpark, Legoland Malaysia General Manager Siegfried Boerst explained that the four-hectare attraction will be able accommodate up to 1,000 visitors at one time when it opens.

Boerst stated "the water park will add a whole new dimension to the Legoland Malaysia experience."

Following the opening of the waterpark, Legoland Malaysia will follow up with two restaurants and a seven-storey hotel with 249 rooms in 2014.

Since opening in September last year, Legoland Malaysia has surpassed operator Merlin Entertainments' target of one million visitors.
