Lee-Müller to head HKCEC management company

Monica Lee-Müller is to assume the role of Managing Director of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre's (HKCEC) management and operating company, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Ltd (HML), with effect from 1st July 2012.

Lee-Müller has held the position of Deputy Managing Director since 2007 and was formerly the HML's Director of Business Development. During this 18-year tenure, Lee-Müller has led the team in securing numerous world renowned exhibitions and conventions.

Announcing the appointment, NWS Holding Ltd Executive Director Patrick Lam explained "Monica has been one of Hong Kong's foremost ambassadors in the global Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions industry. She is highly respected by HML's staff and clients as well as by professionals within the industry. She is a valuable asset to the HKCEC and Hong Kong's multi-billion dollar meetings and exhibitions industry."

The 930-staff strong HML manages and operates the HKCEC under an operation agreement with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).

Monica Lee-Müller serves on the HML Executive Leadership Committee and regularly represents the HKCEC at industry events and trade shows overseas. She is a member of the Board of UFI, the global association of the exhibition industry, and has served in numerous other capacities in the industry's leading convention and exhibition trade associations. She is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Exhibition & Convention Industry Association (HKECIA).

Lee-Müller currently holds a number of other industry positions in Hong Kong. She is a board member of Ocean Park Corporation and serves on the Advisory Board of The School of Hotel and Tourism Management at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University as well as other educational institutes. She has served as a mentor at the Hong Kong University SPACE Community College.

The incoming Managing Director holds a Master of Management Program from Macquarie University (Sydney) and a Certificate of Legal Services, with distinction, from the Faculty of Law, The University of Hong Kong. She completed the Ivey Consortium Programme in 2008 and received a Professional Certificate in Event Management from the George Washington University School of Business and Public Management in January 2003.

Lee-Müller has just graduated from the IAVM's Senior Executive Symposium (SES). The SES is held annually at Cornell University and is a three-year programme covering advanced leadership topics for senior public assembly venue executives.

Former Managing Director Cliff Wallace, who has served in the role for 17 years, will be focusing his attention on NWS's venue development in China and will maintain his chairmanship of the group's venue management and operating companies in Zhengzhou and Shenyang.

Wallace will remain a board member of HML and will advise as called upon by HML executive management.

Wallace concludes "Monica has been a tower of strength first as our Director of Business Development and then as HML's deputy for the last five years. The time is right for her now to assume the Managing Director role."
