Western Australian Government backs regional pools with $2.8 million funding

As part of an allocation of almost $15 million in the latest round of its Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF), the Western Australian Government is backing regional aquatic facilities with $2.8 million in funding.

Announcing the latest round of the CSRFF program, Western Australian Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies stated "the grants cover projects like installing floodlighting on ovals, upgrading bowling greens, extending existing sporting ovals, building sports pavilions and resurfacing a track.

"These projects will have a direct benefit to participation in community and grassroots sport and recreation.

“We know that when people are active, not only does it benefit their physical health, but it benefits their mental health too and helps keep them connected to the community.

"This is a highly valuable grants program because providing sporting facilities all across WA encourages people of all ages and abilities to be active."

Through CSRFF, the Western Australia Government each year funds sport and recreation facilities through two rounds of Small Grants (up to $200,000 in total project cost); and one round of Annual and Forward Planning Grants (from $200,001 in total project cost).

Aquatic facilities that will benefit from funds in the latest round of the CSRFF program include:

• Shire of Boyup Brook - Installation of a new heating system at Boyup Brook Swimming Pool $100,000
• Shire of Broome - Refurbishment of the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre (pictured) including the pool, wet deck tiling and plant room $1,250,000
• Shire of Cue - Upgrade of pump and filtration systems at Cue Water Park $86,075
• Shire of Gingin - Upgrade of the 25 metre swimming pool at the Gingin Iluka Aquatic Centre $193,366
• Shire of Harvey - Redevelopment of the Leschenault Leisure Centre $200,000
• Shire of Mount Magnet - Construction of a new leisure pool at Mount Magnet Memorial Swimming Pool $250,000
• Shire of Quairading - Redevelopment of the Quairading Memorial Pool including the 25 metre lane pool, learn to swim pool, plant room and changerooms $800,000.
