Western Australian aquatic, recreation and sport facilities share $15 million in state funding
Aquatic, recreation and sport facilities and groups across Western Australia will share more than $15 million in state Government grants under the latest round of the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF).
Announcing the 2012-13 grants, Western Australian Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron said he was pleased the advisory committee recommended the full allocation of $15,088,000 across 46 projects.
Minister Waldron explained "sport and recreation is such a valuable part of the everyday lives of hundreds of thousands of West Australians, and the CSRFF highlights the State Government's commitment to the ongoing development of sustainable infrastructure to allow continued participation."
The Minister said one of this year's major projects was the redevelopment of the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre, stating "recreation and aquatic centres are often the hub of our communities and the Government's investment in this facility reflects our understanding of its importance to the people in the Peel region."
Some of the major projects that the CSRFF is backing this year include:
• City of Mandurah - $2,500,000 for the redevelopment of the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre;
• City of Swan - $1,047,574 for the construction of a community building at Ellenbrook District Open Space;
• City of Melville - $1 million for the installation of a multi-use synthetic surface at Len Shearer Reserve;
• Shire of Plantagenet - $875,000 for the development of Sounness Park including changerooms, upgrade of the football oval and floodlighting;
• City of Stirling - $858,568 for the refurbishment and extension of the Carine Open Space pavilion;
• City of Rockingham - $700,000 for the construction of the Secret Harbour Surf Life Saving Club building;
