City of Phoenix aquatic experts to address 2017 LIWA Aquatics Conference

With its 2017 Annual Conference and Trade Display being held on 14th and 15th of August, the Leisure Institute of Western Australia Aquatics Inc (LIWA Aquatics) has announced that two high quality international speakers will be making key presentations.

Announcing that Kelly Martinez and Becky Hulett, senior aquaic professionals at the City of Phoenix (Arizona, USA), will be conducting a number of presentations, LIWA Aquatics Executive Officer Tony Head explains that the pair “maintain our association with the United States and (will) bring a different insight to this year's event.

Kelly Martinez has been an aquatic professional since 1987 and is currently an Aquatic Recreation Coordinator for the City of Phoenix - co-supervising 28 facilities, 28 facility managers and 500 part-time aquatic employees.

Martinez has been providing training for supervisory groups for many years in the areas of leadership, guest services, evaluation standards and aquatic surveillance and is committed to working with other aquatic professionals and agencies to eliminate drownings in lifeguarded facilities.

Becky Hulett, Aquatic Supervisor for the City of Phoenix, has 20 years' experience in the aquatics field.

A graduate from Northern Arizona University, she began her occupation in the education field, but found her passion in aquatics.

Hulett started her career by training and managing lifeguards and, for the last eight years, has headed the entire Aquatic Section for the Parks Department in Phoenix where she supervises three full time aquatic coordinators and oversees 65 pool management staff at 29 outdoor facilities.

At the LIWA Aquatics conference, Hulett and Martinez will present a number of presentations in their area of expertise including:

• Analysing actions plans
• Mystery shopper audits - 'making it real'
• Why lifeguard freeze
• Lifeguards and YouTube
• Lessons learned in Phoenix

The addition of Becky and Kelly to program this year will ensure LIWA Aquatics members are aware of latest world trends in our industry and the supervision of patrons and the training of lifeguards

Registrations are open for the 2017 LIWA Annual Conference and Trade Display which is being held  at the Fremantle Esplanade.

The Conference will feature two streams to ensure the conference provides relevant content for all delegates.
