2013 YMCA Swimathon raises $211,000
The YMCA Swimathon 2013 almost doubled its fundraising efforts in its second year raising almost $211,000 to enable more Australians in need the chance to learn to swim and be safe around water.
The event was led by some remarkable child ambassadors in 8 year old Jacob Suthern from Cooma; 7 year old Chloe, from Kurri Kurri; 9 year old Maddison Parker from Derrimut, Melbourne; and 9 year old Harry Owers, from Portland, Victoria who touched hearts and inspired extraordinary efforts from over 2,500 participants who swam and fundraised for the cause in their local communities in 50 pools across the nation on Sunday 3rd March.
In the week leading up to the event, thousands of primary school aged children also Dived In and Helped Out
National Council of YMCAs Chief Executive Ron Mell congratulated everyone involved in making this year's event a huge success, stating "it's really heartening to see so many local pools and communities getting behind this event to make sure there are no barriers to people having the chance to learn to swim and be safe around water."
The YMCA Swimathon encourages people of all ages and abilities to dive in and swim laps to help give everyone in the community the chance to learn vital swimming and water safety skills.
All money raised from the YMCA Swimathon is reinvested in the local community.
