Inaugural scholarships awarded for international swim schools program

The Australian Swim Schools Association (ASSA) and the United States Swim Schools Association (USSSA) announced the recipients of the inaugural annual ASSA/USSSA Coutts Family Scholarships, from ASSA: Richard Burchfield, Nikki Grazulis and Julia Ham; and from USSSA: John Kirk, Tiernan Murphy and Pat Sunderhaus.

From nearly 50 high quality applications, each Association provided the Selection Committee with a short-list.

As ASSA Chief Executive Ross Gage explains “the deliberations were long and hard, before the recipients were resolved.

“The result is an amazing mix of expertise, experience and swim school organization types. We would like to thank everyone that took the time to apply.

“We will all be able to gain from this experience when the scholarship recipients make their presentation at ASSA Conference 2018, sharing what they learned about continuing growth in the learn to swim industry.”

On behalf of the Coutts Family Trust, John Coutts stated "we are incredibly excited about hosting the inaugural event in Finland. Planning is well underway and we can't wait to see what exciting ideas and concepts emerge from this meeting of minds."

The Scholarship Fund will back a program involving two teams of three swim schoolers from Australia and the USA. Their challenge will be to design a cutting-edge swim school which meets certain parameters – including financial viability.
