Gymnastics Clubs Australia announces new inductees for their Hall of Fame

Gymnastics Clubs Australia has announced that Perth's Val Norris and Sydney's Ken Benson have been inducted into their Hall of Fame.

Both were recognised in the Pioneer category during GCA National Congress 2022 Darwin.

A 1960 and 1964 Olympian, Val Norris pioneered 'mixed gender practice sessions' and 'going your own way'.  Re the latter, Norris took on the 'establishment', resulting in her starting a non-affiliated recreational club and an affiliated competitive club.  During this time, Norris took on her own facilities - a massive challenge - particularly for a female at the time.

Ken Benson came to gymnastics as a late teen and became a volunteer coach soon after in the 1960s.  He developed many highly successful programs for the Y in the Epping area.  Benson drove the development of permanent Y sites in Epping and the Penrith.  He was also the inaugural GA Coach of the Year.
