Griffith Regional Aquatic Leisure Centre welcomes new manager

Griffith City Council has appointed local resident Craig Tilston as the new Manager at Griffith Regional Aquatic Leisure Centre (GRALC).

Tilston is a longtime supporter of the Centre and brings years of community experience to the position, along with a passion for swimming and sporting activities.

Tilston shared “I am extremely proud to have been appointed to the role – as my daughter said to me, it’s like I have come full circle and I get to be part of an industry I am truly passionate about.

“Having been a strong advocate for GRALC over the years, I am looking forward to being able to work with the dedicated team, our patrons, community groups and other stakeholders to grow the Centre and increase usage across all areas including Splash Swim School, recreational swimming, and the Gym.

“I have a vision for the future of the facility – bringing in some larger and higher profile swimming carnivals to make use of the incredible 50m pool, we are also looking at introducing summer water polo after feedback from the community, work with community groups to increase participation and water activities, and align GRALC with other sporting organisations when competitions are held in the City so that Griffith can truly be considered an all sports region.”

GRLAC currently offers an award winning Splash Swim School, with Tilston aiming to see the numbers grow and reach as many non-swimmers as possible.

Tilston added “Griffith is surrounded by water and water safety is paramount for all non-swimmers.

“I would like to build on our highly successful and well-respected swim school to provide the opportunity for people to learn to swim in a safe, friendly and inclusive environment.”

There are plans for ‘the fitness club’ in the works, with  Tilston aiming to develop and promote the offerings to patrons and helping them achieve their fitness goals.

“But above all, I want to promote a fun, friendly and inclusive experience from the time you walk in the door so that our patrons want to come back time and time again,” added Tilston.

Max Turner, Director Business, Cultural and Financial Services said he is excited to have Tilston join the team and is looking forward to seeing his vision come to fruition.
