Goulburn Aquatic and Leisure Centre to host summer season events
The Goulburn Aquatic and Leisure Centre is set to see an influx of activity with a series of major events set to run during January.
Starting with a pool party extravaganza, the inaugural Pictures and Popcorn at the Pool will take place on Saturday 20th January with free entry to the pool from 4pm. Featuring a screening of the Disney animated movie Moana, enjoy a summer evening with friends and family filled with fun and activity.
Kicking off the medley of competitive events is the Special Olympics NSW Swimming City v Country meet on Sunday 21st January, bringing an array of competitors. With a focus on fun and inclusion, the day will start with competitive swimming, finishing with novelty events including surfboard races and a tug of war.
Special Olympics NSW is supported by an international charity called the Law Enforcement Torch Run. Local police will bring the joy of a torch and cauldron, to light up the event and make the athletes feel like they are competing at the world games.
Celebrating Australia’s love of the water is Swimming Australia's nine day national event Australia Swims. The Goulburn Aquatic and Leisure Centre will be getting involved, hosting Optus Junior Dolphins Carnivals and Clinics on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th January.
A special guest appearance from Australian Gold Medallist Petria Thomas and Australian Dolphins athlete Hayley Baker will bring some excitement and star power to the event on Wednesday 24th January.
Rounding out the week long swimming spectacular is the Swimming NSW Country Regional Meet on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th January. A total of 42 swim events will take place across the weekend with competitors coming from all over the state.
