Motor driven pool covers offer maximum energy savings

Having installed heat retaining pool covers at 67 commercial swimming pools in 2013, Sunbather Pool Technologies - the leading designer, supplier, manufacturer and installer of heat retention systems for Australia's public and private commercial aquatic centres know that, for commercial pools to be viable, costs must be contained.

With their track record and 40 years of industry experience, Sunbather know the heat retention and energy saving benefits that Sunbather Thermal Blankets deliver to their customers.

Sunbather are also aware that severe demands are placed on their systems every day of the year, so they have to tough, durable and reliable. They alo design their systems to be easy to operate.

As Sunbather Commercial Sales executive Pam Robinson explains "for a thermal blanket and roller system to be successful it must be used when the pool is closed (and) this means the system must be easy for the operators to use.

"If the system is badly designed and too difficult to use, the aquatic centre will not make the expected savings because the blankets will not be put onto the water."

As a result, Robinson adds "given the impact of OH&S and the size of the modern pool covers, the future for commercial pool rollers is motor driven."

Sunbather motors can be hidden inside the roller shaft itself; or can be wall mounted, side mounted, end mounted, installed under benches or even hung from the ceiling.

They can be remote controlled and key lockable, can straddle starting blocks, cope with lane ropes, and cover 50 metre pools.

Robinson explains "in essence they are practical, out of the way, simple to use and cost effective with energy and OH&S savings."

For ease of use, installation and ongoing efficiency, Sunbather are working with designers, architects and owners to include the wall mounted or underseat motorised thermal blanket and roller systems at the design stage of the project. They explain that this is earier than trying to retro fit a system to a building that has not taken into consideration the importance of a thermal blanket and roller system.

In a highly successful year, Sunbather have also installed a significan number of solar pool heating systems and heatpumps, while many of their 67 thermal blanket installations have been replacing old manual systems and/or providing replacement blankets to go on existing rollers.
