DWP Australia to design new Goulburn Aquatic Centre
Award-winning architecture firm dwp Australia has won Goulburn Mulwaree Council’s tender for the redevlopment of the Goulburn Aquatic Centre.
The Goulburn Aquatic Centre is a popular community centre for the southern NSW Tablelands community, with thousands taking advantage of the pool and gym each month.
Described as a “once in 50 year chance to give the centre an upgrade”, stage one of the project includes a new 10 lane, 25 metre indoor pool, refurbishment of the existing indoor pool and a new pool hall to encompass both of the pools, new leisure pool, change rooms, entrance foyer, café with connectivity to Victoria Park and other associated works.
Dwp, in partnership with Canberra architecture consultancy Clarke Keller, reportedly tendered $1,448,060 for the work, including $222, 882 for design attendance during construction.
Nine firms tendered for the design and DA preparation with a design panel evaluating the tenders based on non-price criteria, such as previous experience, (given a 60% weighting) and price (40pc weighting).
Constructed in the 1950s, a 2016 HM Leisure Planning study commissioned by the Council identified the scale and nature of redevelopment necessary to meet community needs. Dwp then prepared the concept plan for the centre’s three-stage redevelopment.
Looking forward to what dwp will design, Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor Bob Kirk stated “they are a company who has had immense success in the design industry, particularly in community facilities such as this.
“It’s great to get underway with detailed design for this important project for Goulburn Mulwaree – this is a once in a lifetime chance to ensure the facility caters for the region properly for the next 50 years.”
Dwp Australia has undertaken a number of community aquatic and sporting centre projects around the country, delivering 60 aquatic facility projects over 30 years, including the award winning Noble Park Aquatic Centre.
