Gold Coast Aquatic Centres reach 100% compliance under the Royal Life Saving Society’s Platinum Pools Program

Marking a significant achievement in aquatic facility safety in Queensland, all eight of the Gold Coast City Council aquatic centres have reached 100% compliance under the Royal Life Saving Society’s Platinum Pools Program - a first for any local government area in the state.

Established in Queensland in 2021, the Platinum Pools Program recognises excellence in aquatic safety and risk management. Endorsed venues must successfully complete a rigorous combination of assessments each year, including the Royal Life Saving Aquatic Facility Safety Assessment, mystery guest visits, and compliance with national and state standards.

For the second year running, four venues; Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, Pimpama Sports Hub, Upper Coomera Aquatic Centre and Miami Aquatic Centre, have retained their Platinum Endorsement while the remaining four venues; Nerang Aquatic Centre, Mudgeeraba Aquatic Centre, Helensvale Aquatic Centre and Palm Beach Aquatic and Community Centre, have achieved Gold status, following exceptional results in their safety evaluations.

Celebrating the achievement, Royal Life Saving Queensland State Manager, Nikki Thornhill stated "this is a landmark moment not only for the City of Gold Coast, but for Queensland as a whole.

"Achieving 100% compliance across all local aquatic centres is no small feat. It speaks volumes about the City’s leadership and commitment to providing world-class, safe aquatic environments for the community."

Praising the initiative, City of Gold Coast Mayor, Tom Tate advised "safety is our number one priority.

Seeing all our aquatic centres lead the way with Platinum and Gold endorsements confirms our commitment to excellence.”

The result not only sets a new benchmark for Queensland but also reinforces the City of Gold Coast’s position as a national leader in aquatic safety and community wellbeing.
