Fitness First launches new children's activity programs
Fitness First has launched a new program - Fitness First Kids - with specially designed fitness classes aimed at teaching children aged three to 12 years the importance of forming healthy habits early on and having fun with fitness.
Channelling the energy of children with fun moves and the latest music, each 45 minute Fitness First Kids class blends cardio fun, strength, dance, balance, stability, speed, relaxation and stretching.
Introducing Fitness First Kids, Program Director Jack East explains “at Fitness First we help to show kids how to move with purpose and go further than they even thought possible, with a great mix of self-expression and coordinated moves.
“When fitness is in your kids’ lives, they enjoy energy, confidence and focus long after the class is over.”
Aware of alarmingly low levels of physical activity among Australian children, which see them ranked as being among the least active in the world, East recognises that physical education at school can be intimidating. As a result he created the Fitness First Kids program to provide a comfortable and engaging environment for kids to learn, get fit and enjoy exercise.
East adds “competitive games and sports can leave some children feeling uninterested and unwilling to participate. Not every child needs a sport to play, but they do need to exercise.
“Fitness First Kids provides a non-competitive environment where children of all fitness levels are encouraged to participate and have fun with fitness.”
Developed in consultation with the Sports Science Education Institute, Fitness First Kids classes are divided into three age groups:
• Three to five years classes focus on creativity and coordination and has been created just for little kids to have big fun, allowing them to lose themselves in the action, and grow in healthy habits along the way
• Six to eight years classes are about energy and focus with kids encouraged to dance, express themselves, and learn to put their moves into a sequence to the music they love
• Nine to 12 years classes focus on concentration and confidence where kids will have fun while getting the confidence to shine in every other part of their lives, challenging themselves at their own comfort level.
From 14th July, Fitness First Kids classes will be offered at six Fitness First clubs in NSW: Balgowlah Platinum; Bondi Platinum; Castle Hill, Chatswood Platinum; Randwick and Sylvania.
All Fitness First Kids instructors are qualified fitness professionals with Certificate III in fitness, hold two Children’s specialisation training units (Cert IV level).
All Fitness First Kids instructors have also passed Working with Children checks, and hold current FirstAid/CPR certificates.
