Les Mills Born to Move youth fitness program introduced at Cityfit in Bathurst

The Cityfit Fitness Club is Bathurst has become one of the first gyms in regional Australia to offer the new Les Mills youth activity program, Born to Move.

Developed to combat declining levels of physical activity in children and youth, Born to Move consists of a movement-based programs for five age groups, starting with two to three-year-olds through to adolescents. Classes for the younger children build foundation fitness skills through imagination, exploration and movement set to specially created music while classes for youth use top 40 hits and focus on building dance, yoga, martial arts and athletic skills.

Cityfit, Bathurst’s longest running fitness club, and one of the strongest in regional NSW, has been been offering Les Mills programs for the last 17 years.

As Cityfit owner Margot Webster explains “Group Fitness classes are one of the most effective forms of exercise because people are more motivated, energetic and they learn more in a coached group environment.

“The Born to Move product has been developed on the same principals; children will feel more motivated and learn more in group classes. Cityfit will give them a safe and non-competitive environment to get moving, build confidence, make new friends and most importantly have fun."

The Cityfit Born to Move program is split into three age-specific programs: for four to five: six to seven; and eight to 12 year olds, offering a tailored solution for each age group. The programs are designed to make physical activity an enjoyable and meaningful part of children’s lives which they will carry on into adulthood.

The Junior programs (four to five years) build confidence and develop skills using simple moves, role-playing, storytelling, and imagination while the Senior programs (six to 12 years) focus on games, coordination, team building, problem solving and expressive action. Music and choreography are updated three times a year to ensure children are constantly challenged and engaged.

Looking forward to an expanding uptake of the programs, Webster adds “we are really excited about this program. My team and I get so much satisfaction from seeing the change in people as they gain confidence and health from exercise.

“We are on a mission to help the kids of Bathurst get moving and reverse the concerning health trends.”
